Feeding Tips: New calves must receive colostrum within two hours of birth and for the first two days after birth. Colostrum should be fed often in small portions with a minimum of three feedings per day. Calves should be fed two to four litres of colostrum per day. Provide fresh, clean water and Land O’Lakes calf starter from four days after birth and continue on a free-choice basis. Observe calves closely during milk replacer feeding period. Avoid underfeeding, which may result in starvation, or over-consumption, which may increase the incidence of scours.
